Farmer uses an "Iron Buffalo" to prepare a rice paddy. These simple all purpose machines have all but replaced the Water Buffalo which traditionally served as the principal working animal in this, the most rural part of Thailand. The very landscape itself is under threat as rice paddies are combined and trees removed for the convenience of machine harvesting. I plan to include an article on the changing face of Isaan on this site in the next few months.
